A survey of 2,000 British adults commissioned by Samsung has found that eight in 10 people now actively track their health every day. Step count is the most commonly monitored metric, with 58% measuring it daily, while 27% keep a close eye on their heart rate in the same time frame. Sleep has become a major driver of the preventative health movement, with 42% monitoring how many hours they sleep each night and 34% tracking the quality of their rest.
Shift Towards Preventative Health
The findings indicate a growing shift towards personal health, as consumers increasingly seek to understand how their everyday habits influence their bodies before serious health issues develop. Annika Bizon from Samsung UK and Ireland said: "We're seeing a fundamental shift in how people think about their health. Rather than waiting for warning signs or problems to emerge, more consumers are looking for ways to better understand their wellbeing every day and make small, positive changes that can have a lasting impact."
Lifestyle Changes Driven by Data
Sixty-four percent of respondents have actively changed aspects of their lifestyle after reviewing health data and insights. Among them, 53% decided to improve their diet, 50% committed to walking more, and 29% took action to better their sleeping habits. This quest for self-improvement may explain why 55% said they are more proactive about monitoring their health today than five years ago.
Desire for Simplified Health Scores
Seventy-one percent of those surveyed feel that understanding what is happening inside their body helps them feel more in control of their long-term health. Consequently, 61% would be interested in a single score that combines different health factors to better understand their heart health. Samsung recently announced a major update to Samsung Health, including a Heart Health Score, designed to transform the upcoming Galaxy Watch Series into a proactive health partner. Bizon added: "Health is no longer just about responding reactively – it's increasingly about prevention, awareness and building healthy habits over time."
