Apple Launches iPhone 17e with MagSafe and A19 Chip

Apple Introduces iPhone 17e as Budget-Friendly Handset with Key Upgrades

Apple has commenced a week of product launches with the debut of the iPhone 17e, an entry-level budget smartphone designed to deliver enhanced features at an accessible price point. This new model marks a significant step for Apple's affordable lineup, incorporating MagSafe wireless charging and a powerful A19 chip for the first time in this segment.

Enhanced Performance and Connectivity

The iPhone 17e is equipped with Apple's latest A19 processor, identical to that found in the standard iPhone 17, ensuring robust performance for everyday tasks and applications. Additionally, it includes the C1X cellular modem, initially featured on the iPhone Air, which offers twice the speed and improved efficiency compared to previous modems. This combination promises a smoother user experience and better battery life, thanks to more efficient silicon technology.

Display and Durability Improvements

Featuring a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, the iPhone 17e maintains the same screen size as its predecessor, the iPhone 16e. However, it now benefits from Apple's Ceramic Shield 2 technology on the front, claimed to be three times more scratch-resistant than earlier versions. The device also sports an aluminium frame, enhancing overall durability without compromising on style.

Camera Capabilities and Storage Options

On the rear, the iPhone 17e retains a single 48-megapixel fusion camera with optical 2x zoom. Apple has improved portrait processing, enabling automatic depth capture for both people and pets, along with post-shot focus adjustment. For selfies and Face ID, a 12-megapixel front camera is included. A notable upgrade is the standard 256GB of storage, doubling the base capacity of previous models while keeping the starting price unchanged. A 512GB variant is also available for users requiring more space.

MagSafe Integration and Charging Details

One of the standout features is the introduction of MagSafe support, allowing for 15W wireless charging via Qi2 technology. Although this is slower than the 25W charging on the regular iPhone 17, it provides convenience and compatibility with a wide range of MagSafe accessories. The device continues to use the familiar notch design rather than the Dynamic Island, but internal enhancements make it a compelling option for budget-conscious consumers.

Availability and Pricing in the UK

Pre-orders for the iPhone 17e will open in the UK on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, at 2:15 PM GMT, with general sales commencing on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. The handset is offered in white, black, and soft pink colour options. Pricing starts at £599 for the 256GB model and £799 for the 512GB version, making it an attractive entry point into Apple's ecosystem with modern features.
