Manchester United and Atalanta are in the final stages of negotiations over a deal for Brazilian midfielder Ederson. There is growing confidence that an agreement can be reached by the end of the week, with the total fee potentially reaching £38 million including add-ons. The initial payment is expected to be around £34 million.
Personal terms and ongoing talks
Personal terms are not anticipated to be a stumbling block as discussions continue. United are also holding talks with other midfield targets as they seek to bolster their squad this summer.
Ederson's future at Atalanta appears to be drawing to a close after he was omitted from the starting lineup against Fiorentina last Friday. Atalanta coach Raffaele Palladino confirmed the decision was mutual, stating: "Not fielding Ederson was a mutual decision. There are ongoing developments related to the transfer market. The fact that he is being tracked by such an important club should be a source of pride."
In Ederson's absence, Atalanta drew their final match of the season 1-1 with Fiorentina.
Player's desire and United's plans
The 26-year-old Brazil international is keen to join Manchester United, who have had representatives in Italy to finalise the deal. United are targeting at least two midfielders this summer, along with a forward, competition at full-back, and a goalkeeper.
