Manchester United are weighing up a shock move for Real Madrid outcast Federico Valverde. The Uruguay star has found himself an outcast in the Spanish capital following his training ground bust-up with team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni.
The incident left Valverde needing hospital treatment for concussion, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. The Real vice-captain issued a public statement and made a grovelling apology, but club bosses remain furious and are considering selling him this summer.
Senior figures in the Real dressing room have sided with Tchouameni and want Valverde sold ahead of next season. United are closely monitoring the situation at the Bernabeu. The English giants are keen to bolster their midfield options this summer and have also shown interest in Tchouameni.
However, the French World Cup winner is reluctant to leave Real Madrid, especially after the club's support following his clash with Valverde. It remains to be seen if Valverde would be interested in a move to Old Trafford. The Uruguayan is under contract until 2029 and would command a huge transfer fee.
United have made signing two top-class midfielders a priority this summer. Casemiro will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, and United are expected to sell Manuel Ugarte to the highest bidder. Possible targets include Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Tchouameni, and now Valverde.
Valverde, 27, has won 73 international caps and will represent Uruguay at this summer's World Cup in North America.
