American football star Travis Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion, has been confirmed as a minority investor in the Major League Baseball team, the Cleveland Guardians. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end acquired a small share of David Blitzer's 35 per cent holding in the franchise, with the announcement made on Wednesday.
Kelce's Childhood Dream Realized
Kelce, a native of Cleveland Heights, expressed his long-held desire to invest in his childhood favourite team, calling it a “dream come true” on his New Heights podcast. His deep connection to baseball includes excelling in the sport during high school and playing on a collegiate summer team. He is scheduled to throw a ceremonial first pitch on 14 June.
NFL Stars in MLB Ownership
Kelce joins fellow Chiefs player Patrick Mahomes, who holds a stake in the Kansas City Royals, in investing in a Major League Baseball team. This trend highlights the growing crossover between professional football and baseball ownership.
In a statement, Kelce said, “I just couldn’t say no” to the opportunity, emphasizing his lifelong passion for the Guardians. The deal was facilitated by Blitzer, a private equity executive and co-owner of the Guardians.
