Millions of Nationwide Building Society members are being urged to take action to secure a £50 windfall before a fast-approaching deadline. The mutual has issued a final call, warning customers not to "miss out" on the complimentary cash, which was distributed as a gesture of appreciation earlier this year.
Who Was Eligible for the Nationwide Payment?
The world's largest building society set specific criteria for the £50 "big thank you" payment. To qualify, individuals needed to have been a Nationwide member on 30 September 2024 and remained one when the payments were sent out.
Furthermore, during the 12 months leading up to that September date, members must have met at least one of three conditions. They needed to have either owed a minimum of £100 on one or more Nationwide mortgages, held at least £100 across Nationwide current or savings accounts, or conducted at least one qualifying transaction through such an account.
How to Claim Your Money Before the Deadline
Nationwide has confirmed that all payments have now been issued. For most, the £50 landed directly into their accounts. However, a significant number were sent out via traditional cheque.
The building society has now issued a critical alert to its customers: "Cheques must be paid in by 1 January 2026 to make sure you don't miss out on the payment." This creates a firm deadline for anyone who has received a cheque but not yet banked it.
What to Do If You Haven't Received Your £50
If you believe you were eligible but have not received any communication or payment, Nationwide advises there are steps you can take. Guidance on their website suggests a missing email or letter could be due to incorrect contact details on their records.
Members should first check and update their contact information via the Nationwide internet bank or mobile banking app. Another possibility is that the society's records indicate you no longer reside in the UK, in which case a cheque would have been mailed.
"If this is the case, you will need to contact us by January 1 2026 to confirm your details," states Nationwide. You can initiate a chat via the online banking platforms or visit a branch in person. The society notes that you may be required to confirm your identity during this process.
With the turn of the year imminent, eligible members are encouraged to act promptly to ensure they don't let this £50 opportunity slip away.
