Louise Thompson Transforms Son's Bedroom with Designer Look for Less
Louise Thompson's Son's Bedroom Makeover on a Budget

Louise Thompson has offered a glimpse into her son Leo's newly refurbished bedroom, featuring a high-street lamp that closely mimics an expensive designer version. The former Made In Chelsea star, 36, has been occupied over recent weeks renovating the four-year-old's space, which she shares with her fiancé and fitness influencer Ryan Libbey.

A Budget-Friendly Designer Look

In an effort to transition away from co-sleeping after four years, Thompson has introduced several furniture upgrades. She shared photographs on Instagram showcasing how she drew inspiration from designer aesthetics while sticking to high-street prices. A standout piece is a lamp from La Redoute, costing £52.99, which resembles a £505 Alfred Newall Bobbin Lamp base paired with a £245 Munro and Keer lampshade. Alternative options include a Birdie Fortescue twisted wooden table lamp at £115, which can be combined with a Pooky scalloped straight empire shade for £105.

Encouraging Independent Sleep

Thompson explained the rationale behind the makeover: 'We set ourselves a challenge to update Leo’s room now he’s turned 4 years old. The challenge wasn’t just to mix up the design and to install brilliant bits of furniture, it was also to try and change the energy in there to encourage him to sleep in his own bed all night long without any corridor creeping.' She admitted to spending over an hour each night with him until he falls asleep since his birth, but now aims to reclaim her evenings and foster his independence.

The redesign focused on a boyish, fun, practical, and calming atmosphere, involving Leo in the process to create a safe space within budget. Key updates include a new wooden bed and wardrobe, which has become his favourite hide-and-seek spot. Thompson praised La Redoute's reliable quality for furniture and textiles.

Positive Sleep Changes

'The biggest change has been sleep. He’s now in his own bed almost every night, which has taken a while to get to. Having a room that feels like he’s had some part in designing has definitely helped,' she noted. The colour palette combines blue and red, creating a playful, slightly circus-like feel that remains age-appropriate and blends well with panelling and wallpaper.

Thompson emphasised the joy of decorating children's rooms with trinkets and artwork, adding personality without feeling cluttered. The storage in the wardrobe and decorative shelves enhance functionality. The refreshed scheme aims to balance fun and practicality while maintaining a calm and cosy environment.

Expert Insights on Lighting Trends

Julia Barnes, Buying Director at online lighting destination ValueLights, commented on the trend: 'The redesign featured our powder blue bobbin table lamp with blue trim scallop shade, which offers a softer, more decorative alternative to clean-lined styles while bringing movement and playfulness into the space. We're seeing more homeowners opt for lighting that doubles as a design feature rather than something purely purposeful, with scalloped silhouettes and bobbin bases delivering that perfectly. Organic shapes like scalloped styles worked beautifully within the brief for Leo's bedroom makeover, helping to create a space that feels playful yet considered. Scalloped designs feel fresh, modern and full of personality, making them an ideal choice for more characterful interiors.'
