A restaurant in Spain has introduced a controversial new charge for customers who overeat to the point of vomiting. Sushi Toro, an all-you-can-eat establishment located in Gelves near Sevilla, announced it would implement a “vomit fee” following a surge in incidents involving diners consuming excessive amounts of food and then being sick on the premises.
Restaurant Cites Hygiene and Staff Concerns
In a statement shared on social media, the restaurant explained that it had been experiencing a growing problem with customers who “keep ordering non-stop and eat until they burst, until they vomit.” The management noted that vomit had been found on tables and in bathrooms, creating difficulties for staff and raising serious hygiene concerns. They described the new fee as “the only solution” to address the issue.
Sushi Toro offers a buffet menu that blends traditional and innovative sushi dishes, prepared with fresh ingredients and specialist techniques. Prices range from €16.90 (£14.40) to €23.90 (£20.30), depending on the time and day of dining.
Appeal for Responsible Dining
The restaurant urged customers to “order what you can eat” and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the new policy. Staff emphasised that they work hard to ensure timely service and maintain high hygiene standards throughout service periods.
The move comes amid a surge in demand for sushi in Spain, as diners increasingly favour Asian seafood dishes over traditional Spanish fish offerings.
