Chelsea have received a significant injury boost as defenders Reece James and Levi Colwill have both returned to full training and could be available for Monday's Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
Return to Training
The duo, who have been sidelined with respective injuries, resumed full training this week. Interim head coach Calum McFarlane confirmed their progress but urged caution regarding their immediate return to the starting lineup. "They are both doing well and have trained fully with the group," McFarlane said. "We will assess them over the next few days and make a decision. We don't want to rush them back, but it's encouraging to have them available."
Team Unity Defended
McFarlane also addressed recent reports of internal disciplinary issues, defending Enzo Fernandez's trip to Madrid with teammates during a break. "It's important for the squad to bond," he explained. "I see that as a positive sign of team unity, not a problem." The comments come after the club took disciplinary action against several players for breaches of conduct, but McFarlane insisted the squad remains focused.
Chelsea are in desperate need of a victory, having lost their last five league matches without scoring a single goal. Their hopes of a top-five finish are now all but over, with the club languishing in mid-table. McFarlane acknowledged the poor run but remained defiant. "We are Chelsea, a massive club with a winning history. We will turn this around," he said.
Manager Speculation Dismissed
When asked whether the current working conditions at the club might deter top managerial candidates, McFarlane dismissed the notion. "This is one of the biggest jobs in world football. The right people will see the potential here. We have a great squad, fantastic facilities, and a fanbase that demands success. That will always attract top talent."
With the return of James and Colwill, Chelsea hope to shore up a defence that has conceded heavily during their losing streak. The match against Nottingham Forest is seen as a must-win to restore some pride and momentum before the end of the season.
