Ibrahima Konate Tells Liverpool Teammates He Will Leave on Free Transfer
Konate Informs Liverpool Teammates of Summer Exit

Ibrahima Konate has reportedly made it clear to his Liverpool teammates that he will be leaving the club this summer when his contract expires. The France international's future at Anfield has been a subject of speculation for months, with his current deal set to run out at the end of June.

Konate's Decision Confirmed

Reports emerged on Friday indicating that Konate will not sign a new contract, ending his five-year stay on Merseyside. The defender arrived from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £36 million and has been a regular in Liverpool's defence. His departure will leave a significant gap, likely forcing Arne Slot's successor to enter the transfer market.

According to French outlet RMC Sport, Konate has informed his Liverpool teammates that he will not change his mind and will leave Anfield upon contract expiry. Real Madrid are early frontrunners to sign him, given their historical interest.

No Impact from Slot's Sacking

The claim emerged on the same day Liverpool sacked Arne Slot after finishing fifth in the Premier League, though the managerial change is not expected to affect Konate's decision. The 2024/25 champions confirmed Slot's exit despite securing Champions League qualification.

Liverpool have been in talks with Konate's representatives since November 2023, but no agreement was reached. In April, Konate expressed hope for a new deal, saying, "For sure there is a big chance I'm here next season... we are close to an agreement."

Defensive Reinforcements

Liverpool will welcome Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes this summer and hope to have Giovanni Leoni available after his ACL injury. However, further defensive additions may be needed, especially if Joe Gomez departs.
