A small plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Crystal Airport north of Minneapolis on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of North Dakota state representative Liz Conmy and the pilot, authorities confirmed.
Crash Details
Police officers responded to a report of a small airplane crash at 11:51 a.m. local time and discovered the aircraft had crashed and caught fire in a park in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, according to Brooklyn Park police inspector Matt Rabe. The plane went down shortly after departing from the airport. Rabe declined to specify the number of occupants, but the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that two people were on board.
Victim Identified
Liz Conmy, a state representative from Fargo, was among those killed, confirmed by state senator Tim Mathern in comments to the Star Tribune. The North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League party, an affiliate of the national Democratic party, issued a statement on social media mourning her loss. “We are completely heartbroken and gutted by the loss of Representative Liz Conmy. Her death is a profound loss for our state,” the party posted on X.
Conmy was described as a champion for public education, environmental protection, and governmental transparency.
Investigation Underway
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced it is investigating the crash involving a Beech F33A airplane, with investigators expected to arrive at the scene shortly. The FAA also confirmed the aircraft type and that two people were aboard.
