Jonas Vingegaard Wins Giro d'Italia, Joins Elite Grand Tour Club
Vingegaard Wins Giro, Completes Grand Tour Set

Jonas Vingegaard secured a commanding victory in the Giro d'Italia on Sunday, etching his name into cycling history as the eighth male rider to conquer all three Grand Tours. The Danish cyclist, representing Team Visma-Lease a Bike, completed the three-week race with a substantial overall lead of 5 minutes and 22 seconds over runner-up Felix Gall. Jai Hindley claimed the third spot on the podium, trailing by 6 minutes and 25 seconds.

A Historic Achievement

Vingegaard's triumph in Italy adds to his already impressive resume, which includes back-to-back Tour de France victories in 2022 and 2023, as well as his first Spanish Vuelta title last year. This Giro win marks his debut in the race, making his dominance all the more remarkable. Upon crossing the finish line in Rome, the 29-year-old embraced his wife and two children, who proudly wore replicas of his maglia rosa, the iconic pink jersey awarded to the race leader.

Looking Ahead to the Tour de France

Having lived up to his billing as the pre-race favorite, Vingegaard now sets his sights on the Tour de France. Should he prevail, he would become the ninth cyclist to achieve the grueling Giro-Tour double in the same season. The final stage of the Giro, largely ceremonial in nature, featured eight laps through the historic streets of Rome. The 131-kilometer route began in the Italian capital, ventured out to the coast, and returned to the city for the finishing circuits.

The relaxed atmosphere among the peloton was evident as riders were seen sharing a box of sweets at the start, followed by glasses of Prosecco. They also paused for team photos during the scenic ride to the sea. The stage victory went to sprint specialist Jonathan Milan, who outsprinted compatriot Giovanni Lonardi and French cyclist Paul Penhoet in a bunch sprint. Milan's win was a redemption of sorts, having seen earlier bids for stage success end in disappointment.
