Hospitals in major tourist hotspots, such as Phuket, are currently absorbing millions of baht each year in treatment costs for uninsured foreign patients. The total unpaid medical bills are estimated to reach approximately £2.3 million annually, creating a severe financial burden that impacts the quality and availability of healthcare services for both locals and visitors alike.
Shift from Entry Fee to Comprehensive Insurance
This initiative marks a notable shift in policy focus. Previously, attention was centred on a separate proposed 300 baht entry fee, which included a small portion allocated for basic medical insurance.
