The future of numerous jobs hangs in the balance after craft beer giant BrewDog confirmed it will shutter its entire distilling operation. The company, founded in 2007, has announced the cessation of all spirits production, including its Duo Rum, Abstrakt Vodka, and Lonewolf Gin brands, at its facility in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

In a significant strategic pivot, BrewDog stated the difficult decision was made to sharpen its commercial focus. The firm will now concentrate its efforts and resources on its established beer portfolio, which includes the globally recognised Punk IPA, and its existing Wonderland cocktail range, which will remain unaffected.

"After careful consideration, we've made the difficult decision to cease production of our distilling brands, with the exception of Wonderland cocktails," the spokesperson said. "The staff at BrewDog whose jobs are now at risk will understandably be very worried by this," MP Cross stated. "This decision highlights the growing issues facing the drinks industry... with challenging market conditions causing financial difficulties."
She emphasised the local economic impact, noting that "residents in and around Ellon rely on employment from BrewDog," and pledged to write to the company seeking clarity on the implications for jobs and other business areas.
