A major fire service operation is underway in Birmingham after a huge blaze erupted at a factory on the Tyseley Industrial Estate on Wednesday evening.
Scale of the Emergency Response
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) was first alerted to the incident on Seeleys Road, Greet, shortly after 7pm on January 7. They initially sent a significant force of 40 firefighters to confront the rapidly developing fire. As the scale of the emergency became clear, the service dramatically escalated its response, doubling the number of personnel on the ground.
At the height of the operation, nearly 80 firefighters were engaged in battling the flames. The substantial brick building, measuring approximately 100 metres by 40 metres, was reported to be fully alight, with the fire spreading throughout the entire structure.
Firefighting Resources Deployed
The emergency effort involved a vast array of fire service assets. The incident command deployed a total of 14 fire engines to the scene. Supporting these were three hydraulic platforms, which are crucial for tackling fires in large industrial buildings, alongside specialist units and command officers.
Images released by the fire service depicted the severity of the situation, showing the factory completely engulfed in intense flames. Crews worked through the night in a determined effort to bring the substantial blaze under control.
Public Health Advice Issued
In response to the significant smoke plume generated by the fire, authorities issued important safety guidance to the local community. Residents living in the vicinity were strongly advised to close all windows and doors to prevent the inhalation of potentially harmful smoke or fumes.
The fire service has also urged members of the public to avoid the Tyseley Industrial Estate area entirely to allow emergency vehicles unimpeded access and to ensure public safety. Fire crews remained on site throughout the night, continuing their work to fully extinguish the fire and dampen down hotspots.
