Ferrari has unveiled its first all-electric car, the Luce, marking a historic departure for the iconic Italian brand. The four-door, five-seat EV boasts a 329-mile range, 350kW charging capability, and a design overseen by former Apple design chief Jony Ive and his colleague Marc Newson.
Design and Styling
The Luce's exterior is a smooth, glass-heavy shape with a shell-like passenger compartment and floating aerodynamic elements. It features enormous 23-inch front and 24-inch rear wheels, the largest staggered wheel sizes ever on a production Ferrari. Five launch colors include Giallo Luce, a yellow inspired by the Ferrari badge.
Interior and Technology
The cabin reflects Ive and Newson's influence, with physical buttons, toggles, and a central screen that can angle toward the driver or passenger. The steering wheel is machined from recycled aluminum and includes Ferrari's Manettino and e-Manettino controls. A unique key fob made of toughened glass with an E Ink display starts the car when placed in the console.
Performance and Powertrain
The Luce uses a dedicated electric platform with four motors (one per wheel) and a 122kWh battery. With Launch Control, it delivers up to 1,036bhp, accelerating from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 193mph. Range is estimated at over 329 miles, with 350kW charging adding 70kWh in 20 minutes.
Sound and Driving Experience
Instead of artificial engine noise, Ferrari amplifies real vibrations from the electric motors, comparing it to an electric guitar. Drivers can adjust the sound via the e-Manettino, from quiet in Range mode to more expressive in Performance mode.
Practicality and Comfort
The Luce is Ferrari's first five-seat road car, with a 597-litre boot and a 2,260kg weight. Its center of gravity is 95mm lower than the Purosangue, and it features active suspension, four-wheel steering, and the lowest aerodynamic drag of any Ferrari. An elastically mounted rear subframe reduces vibration for enhanced comfort.
Warranty and Availability
Ferrari offers a seven-year maintenance program and an eight-year warranty for electric components, including the battery. CEO Benedetto Vigna stated the Luce represents a new segment, combining electric, hybrid, and combustion engine options for customer choice.
