Drew Barrymore Finds Buyer for $4.9M NY Country Home

Drew Barrymore has successfully found a buyer for her sprawling $4.9 million New York country home, nearly two months after placing the estate on the market. The 51-year-old actress, who recently opened up about her body insecurities, originally purchased the 12-acre property in Westchester County two years ago for $4.4 million.

Historic Residence with Modern Renovations

The historic residence, dating back to the 1740s, has undergone extensive renovations over the past year, a process the talk show host has previously discussed publicly. The sale is currently listed as 'pending,' with the final offer amount undisclosed. The listing is handled by Kori Sassower and Brian K. Lewis of Compass.

Barrymore's country home, located in Harrison, offers ample space with six bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The bright living room features a traditional fireplace, French doors leading outdoors, and a spiral staircase ascending to the second level.

Kitchen and Sun Room Highlights

The kitchen boasts wooden cabinetry, a spacious central island, and stone-tiled flooring. Numerous windows line one wall, offering views of the surrounding yard and trees. A circular sun room provides space for a small table, with sunlight streaming through its many windows and glass ceiling.

During warmer months, residents can enjoy the large swimming pool on the property. The estate also includes a separate pool house and guest cottage alongside the main house.

Emotional Connection to the Home

Upon first discovering the country home, the Never Been Kissed actress felt an immediate connection. 'I came here and I walked around and I was like, I swear my family has been in this house,' Barrymore told Rue Magazine in March. 'I don't think I'm super woo-woo, but I had this really strong sense and feeling.'

After purchasing the estate, Barrymore embarked on extensive renovations, admitting she 'had no idea what I was undertaking.' She emphasized her intention 'to preserve things' during the transformation. One of her goals was to elevate spaces without spending excessively. 'I don't spend a lot of money on things. That's not my style. But I was like, how can I make this house look expensive without having true expensive antiques around?' she explained.

Yearning for Nature Outside NYC

Barrymore also shared what drew her to seek a residence outside New York City. 'I had desperately wanted a place outside the city because I had been working for years at this point inside of a studio with no windows. I'm from California and I just had this urge to find nature.' She described having a 'spiritual calling' regarding the house during an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

The estate serves as a nature oasis, surrounded by lush green grass and tall trees. 'It's really like being in your own personal park. There are tons of deer. There are pheasants, there are ducks, there are rabbits,' she noted.

Family and Future Plans

Barrymore previously revealed that she moved to NYC to keep her children close to their father, ex-husband Will Kopelman. The former couple were married from 2012 until their divorce in 2016 and share daughters Olive, 13, and Frankie, 12. 'I ended up finding myself in divorce. Their dad moved to New York, I didn't want my children to be away from their father and I love his family,' she told Oprah Winfrey in 2021. 'We're very close, and even though we had a divorce, we said, "Let's not misstep. Let's just carry on like we are a family because we are a family."'

However, Barrymore has hinted at a possible return to Los Angeles in the future. 'I'm sure I'll be back there. This is just a chapter,' she said about California in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. She added, 'I think it took selling my house in Los Angeles to realize like, this is all you have now. This is what you have. And this is where you are. So you need to embrace it in a way you've never really been able to.'

Barrymore films The Drew Barrymore Show in New York City, which debuted in 2020. In March, the daytime CBS talk show was renewed for two more seasons.
