Cricket icon Michael Clarke has re-listed his luxurious east Sydney mansion on the real estate market, just weeks after his former agent suggested he might struggle to achieve his ambitious asking price of $20 million.
Agent Switch Amid Market Uncertainty
The 45-year-old former Australian Test captain had initially partnered with Highland Double Bay agent Bill Malouf when the spectacular Vaucluse property first went up for sale in November last year. However, Clarke has now turned to Steven Chen and Yioti Apostol, agents at The Agency in Sydney's prestigious eastern suburbs.
Clarke revealed the agent change through an Instagram post that showcased stunning photographs of the lavish property. The cricket great has extensively renovated the home since purchasing it in 2021, transforming it into what he describes as a 'European-inspired' residence.
Luxury Property Details
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion spans an impressive 778 square metres across three levels in one of Sydney's most exclusive eastern suburbs. Real estate experts initially predicted the sprawling home could fetch well over $20 million, according to Domain property reports.
The luxury resort-style property features oversized living spaces, an airy open-plan design, a magnificent pool, and a private formal dining room. The first floor boasts kitchen and dining areas that flow seamlessly onto an entertainment deck, while the second storey offers a verandah and lounge area.
The main bedroom occupies an entire corner of the second floor, complete with a walk-in dressing room, ensuite bathroom, and private balcony. The residence is accessed through a grand entranceway that sets the tone for the property's opulence.
Market Challenges and Previous Agent Comments
Clarke's decision to switch agencies comes just weeks after his previous agent, Bill Malouf, made pointed comments about the current real estate market conditions. "There has been an adjustment," Malouf stated in March, referencing broader economic factors affecting property sales.
Malouf elaborated on market pressures, noting, "It's ridiculous what's happening in the world, fuel prices going through the roof and Trump thinking he's king of the world. I heard this morning that Americans are wanting to move to New Zealand." These comments highlighted the challenging environment for high-end property sales.
Property History and Investment
Clarke originally purchased the sprawling five-bedroom property for approximately $13 million in 2021. Since his retirement from international cricket, the former captain has become a prominent figure in Sydney's eastern suburbs social scene, with this property serving as his primary residence during extensive renovations.
The almost 800-square-metre home represents one of the most significant real estate holdings in Clarke's portfolio. Despite the market challenges and agent switch, Clarke remains determined to achieve his $20 million price target for the palatial Vaucluse mansion that has been his home for the past three years.
