Lost Your Oura Ring? A Free App Helped Me Find Mine in Minutes
Free App Helped Me Find My Lost Oura Ring in Minutes

There is nothing quite as frustrating as losing something valuable with no clue where it might be. That was my recent experience when I realised my Oura ring had slipped off my finger without my noticing.

I was at home at the time and recalled last putting it on several hours earlier after charging it in the bedroom. The rest of that evening involved searching every obvious spot, even sifting through the bin piece by piece.

As days passed, I turned the entire flat upside down, using a torch to inspect every nook and cranny. My Oura app confirmed the ring was still at home but could not pinpoint its exact location.

With the ring's battery running low, I desperately searched online for any trick that might help. That is when I stumbled upon a free app called Wunderfind, which uses Bluetooth to create a device radar, listing all nearby Bluetooth-enabled devices including Apple products, portable speakers, and fitness trackers.

After selecting a specific device, the app shows a percentage score indicating proximity. By moving slowly, you can see whether the score increases or decreases—much like the childhood game of hot or cold.

The app gradually guided me toward a corner of the room where we keep hot water bottles. As I moved my phone closer, the score jumped to 100 per cent, signalling I was right on top of the missing ring. Sure enough, when I picked up my Shrek-themed hot water bottle, I felt the ring at the bottom. Opening the case revealed my health tracker wedged between the bottle and its lining, exactly where I had used it the night it went missing.

How Wunderfind Works

Open the app and ensure Bluetooth is enabled. Select the device you want to locate. Move around slowly while watching the Distance Score percentage increase. A higher score means you are closer to your device.

The app description reads: 'Wunderfind helps you to find your lost AirPods, Apple Pencil, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and more. Lost your device? This app helps you find it within seconds.'

With 115,000 ratings averaging 4.5 out of 5 stars, users have praised it for locating missing items. One person tracked their hearing aids to a crumpled napkin in the car, while another found their headphones received as a gift just two weeks earlier. Others located their Apple Pencil in a laundry basket or between a mattress and bedframe.

One user wrote: 'I recently got hearing aids for the first time—small, discreet devices. The downside is they are hard to find if misplaced. Luckily they are Bluetooth enabled, so I used the app to find them. It is like playing hide and seek with warm or cold cues, but it worked.'

Some users note a slight lag in updating the score, so moving slowly and patiently is key.

About the Oura Ring

The Oura Ring is a smart device with high-tech sensors that track health metrics such as sleep, heart rate, activity, body temperature, and stress. It is water-resistant up to 100 metres and can be worn while swimming or snorkeling. The ring is available in various sizes and finishes, with prices starting at £349 for silver and £499 for gold, plus a monthly membership of £5.99.

Since using Wunderfind to locate my Oura ring, I have recommended it to family and friends. I honestly doubt I would have ever found my ring without its help—hidden inside a water bottle cover. The app only works on devices emitting a Bluetooth signal, so speed is crucial before the battery dies.

Wunderfind is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.
