Rental e-bike operator Lime is launching a new fleet of models equipped with advanced GPS technology to enforce strict parking regulations, aiming to curb the persistent issue of poorly parked e-bikes blocking pavements and roads across the United Kingdom. The initiative represents a significant step forward in urban mobility management, with the enhanced GPS system improving parking detection accuracy to within 1.5 metres, a dramatic upgrade from the previous 12.3 metres.

Enhanced GPS Technology and Enforcement Measures

The new Lime e-bikes require users to park exclusively in designated bays to avoid penalties. If riders fail to comply, they will initially receive a warning, but repeat offenders face charges of up to £20 and potential bans from the service. This enforcement strategy is designed to address widespread public concerns about rental e-bikes creating obstructions and safety hazards in towns and cities.

Inclusive Design and Rollout Plans

In addition to the technological upgrades, the new e-bikes feature design elements aimed at making cycling more inclusive, particularly targeting older riders and women to broaden user demographics.
