Music streaming giant Spotify has announced it will increase the monthly cost of its Premium service for customers in the United States. The new pricing structure will come into effect from subscribers' February billing dates.
Breaking Down the New Subscription Costs
The changes will see a uniform rise across all of Spotify's main premium tiers. The Individual plan will increase by $1, moving from $11.99 to $12.99 per month. For students, the cost will also rise by a dollar, from $5.99 to $6.99 monthly.
The plans designed for multiple users will see similar adjustments. The Duo package, which caters for two accounts, will increase from $18.99 to a new monthly rate. Meanwhile, the Family plan, which allows for up to six accounts, will see its price rise from $21.99.
Company Cites Value and Artist Support
In a statement regarding the increases, Spotify stated that the price adjustments reflect the value its platform delivers to millions of listeners. The company said the additional revenue is necessary to maintain its service quality and continue supporting the artists and creators who provide the content.
This marks the first time Spotify has raised prices for its premium service in the United States since 2024. The move follows similar price hikes implemented in several other global regions during the autumn of last year.
Price Rise Amidst Strong Company Performance
The announcement of higher subscription fees coincided with positive financial news from the streaming service. Spotify reported robust growth in the latter part of 2025, with significant increases in both its total monthly active users and its base of premium subscribers.
The market reacted favourably to this strong performance. Following the reports, Spotify's share price saw a notable rise of 3 per cent, indicating investor confidence in the company's trajectory despite the potential for customer pushback on pricing.
For US subscribers, the change will be applied automatically on their next billing cycle on or after 1 February 2026. Those on fixed-term promotional plans may not see the increase until their current offer period concludes.
