Two separate violent altercations involving Australian tourists have erupted in Thailand's notorious party districts, sparking police investigations and leaving one man hospitalised. The incidents, which occurred in Phuket and Pattaya, highlight escalating tensions among foreign visitors in the country's nightlife hubs.
Phuket Brawl Over a Woman Leaves Australian Hospitalised
Thai police responded to the first incident in the early hours of last Thursday, March 19, on Bangla Road in Phuket's red-light district. Officers arrived at the scene around 2.40am after reports of a physical confrontation between two Australians.
Investigations revealed that the two men had been drinking together before their argument escalated into a violent fight over a woman. Bystanders attempted to intervene and separate the pair, but the altercation continued to intensify until one of the Australians was knocked to the ground.
Disturbing Footage Captures Brutal Assault
Shocking footage from the scene showed one of the Australians, wearing a black singlet and shorts, repeatedly kicking and punching his friend as he lay helpless on the road. During the attack, the aggressor yelled aggressively, shouting phrases like 'Let's go, c***, let's f***ing go.'
The man in the black singlet fled the area before police could arrive. His victim, who was wearing a white shirt, was hauled into an ambulance and transported to Patong Hospital for urgent medical treatment. A large pool of blood marked the spot where the assault had taken place.
Pol. Col. Korakrit Khankhrea, superintendent of Patong Police Station, advised the injured man to file an official report with authorities. However, it remains unclear whether any further legal action has been pursued in this case.
Second Incident in Pattaya Over Bar Tab Dispute
The second violent episode unfolded late on Monday night in Pattaya's Walking Street, another red-light district popular with tourists. Australian tourist Michael Walter Scott, 55, from west Sydney, was found injured after a dispute at the 'Big Tool' bar.
Scott had been drinking at the establishment when an argument erupted over his bar bill, which totalled 1,070 baht, approximately AU$47. The disagreement with staff quickly turned physical, leading security personnel to forcibly eject Scott from the premises.
Police Investigation Hindered by Lack of Cooperation
Officers were called to the scene around 11pm, where they discovered Scott with a significant gash on his head. However, staff at the bar reportedly refused to answer police questions or provide CCTV footage from the venue, complicating the investigation.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been contacted for comment regarding both incidents, as Australian authorities monitor the situation involving their citizens abroad. These brawls underscore the potential dangers and conflicts that can arise in Thailand's vibrant but sometimes volatile nightlife environments.
