Brit Expat Warns of Sunbed Scam in Benidorm

A British expat living in Benidorm has issued an urgent warning about a new sunbed scam targeting tourists, urging visitors to stay vigilant to avoid being cheated out of their money.

Benidorm's Ongoing Popularity

Benidorm remains a top destination for British tourists due to its affordability and vibrant atmosphere, making it a hotspot for stag and hen parties. In some areas, pints cost less than one pound, and the seafront is packed with holidaymakers, even in May before the peak season begins.

The Scam Exposed

Harry Poulton, a British expat now based in Benidorm, shared a warning on TikTok under the handle @harrytokky. He described a 'new scam' where fake sunbed inspectors approach tourists on the beach. Harry urged people to 'listen up' and explained that the scam is 'very silly' but 'easily done' if you are unaware.

According to Harry, sunbeds in Benidorm cost around €6 (£5.22). Tourists must ensure they pay only to official sunbed inspectors and always receive a ticket as proof of payment. Without a ticket, when the real inspector comes around, you could be fined or forced to pay again.

Harry admitted he would 'probably fall for it' himself, highlighting how convincing the scam can be. He stressed that while it's only a small amount of money, it adds up on holiday, and tourists should not pay twice for sunbeds to random strangers taking advantage of hard-earned cash.

Viewer Reactions

One viewer noted that the scam was featured in an episode of the TV show 'Benidorm,' but another pointed out that not everyone has seen the series. Harry has also shared other insights about Benidorm, including a recent video showing the beachfront packed with holidaymakers, leaving 'nowhere to go.'
