A British expat living in Benidorm has expressed astonishment after witnessing an unprecedented level of activity along the beachfront during a recent outing in May. Harry, who documents his life in the popular Spanish resort on social media, had previously voiced concerns that tourism might be dwindling. However, his latest observations have completely changed his mind.
Unbelievable Crowds
Walking along the promenade, Harry was amazed by the sheer number of people. He said, "Oh my goodness, I don't think I've ever seen this place so busy in May before. It's absolutely rammed, guys, Benidorm is booming. You cannot even move in this place. Where are you supposed to go? Unbelievable."
Throughout his video, all the beachfront bars were filled with patrons enjoying the sunshine. One notable sight was a woman in a wedding veil chatting with friends. Harry described the scene as "absolutely insane" and "crazy," inviting others to join the fun.
Weather and Atmosphere
The weather was ideal, with people wearing shorts, flip-flops, and t-shirts, lining the steps to the beach. Harry continued walking, noting there was "nowhere to go" due to the crowds, but he loved seeing the place he adores so vibrant and busy.
In the comments, many travelers preparing to visit in the coming days were thrilled that tourism has picked up early in the season. Typically, Benidorm sees peak crowds in the summer months, but the pleasant weather and lower off-season travel costs are drawing visitors earlier.
Travel Costs
Flying to Benidorm in May can be significantly cheaper than in August. Return tickets from London can cost as little as £80 in May, compared to up to £350 in August when school holidays drive up prices.
However, one commenter noted the unpredictability of early-season weather: "I'm off there on Monday. Is it shorts weather all day and night?" Another replied, "Not right now mate, it's thunder and lightning and raining at the moment." This highlights the mixed bag of weather that can occur in May.
Not everyone was enthusiastic about the crowds. One person fumed, "Definitely not for me, that couldn't think of anything worse for a holiday than all that on the beach front."
