A hidden coastal treasure in Cornwall has captured the hearts of visitors, who describe it as a dream-like escape with pristine natural beauty. Nanjizal Beach, located on the south-west coast near Land's End in the parish of St Levan, remains remarkably unspoilt despite growing attention on social media platforms.
A Secluded Paradise with Ever-Changing Charm
Nanjizal Beach sits at the end of a short, shallow valley, and its landscape transforms from year to year. According to Cornwall Beaches, it alternates between a boulder-strewn cove and a stretch of golden sand across the bay. What remains constant is the unusually clear, blue water that sparkles under the Cornish sun.
While most visitors are walkers following the coastal path, the beach has gained popularity in recent years thanks to Instagram and TikTok. One TikTok user, @hiddengems.app, posted a video calling it "the best secret beach in Cornwall," showcasing its stunning sea cave.
The Enchanting 'Song of the Sea' Cave
The beach's most famous feature is a sea cave known online as the "Song of the Sea" and locally as Zawn Pyg, meaning "pointed chasm." Cornwall Beaches describes it as enchanting, with a lagoon of emerald water running through the cave and magical light flooding through the arch in the afternoon.
Within the cave are two natural pools called Big and Little Muzzan, which can be perfect for a refreshing dip when conditions are calm. However, caution is advised as the far end of the cave opens to powerful Atlantic swells.
A Haven for Wildlife and Coastal Exploration
Nanjizal Beach is nestled within a Site of Special Scientific Interest, making it a haven for wildlife. Birdwatchers frequent the area, and it's an excellent spot to observe seals, particularly near Zawn Reeth. The beach also offers plenty of caves and interesting rock formations for explorers.
Visitors have shared their experiences online, with one saying, "This was the most stunning walk we did from Land's End to Nanjizal. The water was absolutely freezing to cross, but it was incredible - the wild horses, the little waterfall, just stunning!" Another added, "We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep. You can't beat Cornwall."
Some have compared it to nearby Porthcurno Beach below the Minack Theatre, noting the similarly blue seas that make you feel like you're abroad on a hot day. Despite the comparisons, Nanjizal maintains its secluded charm, avoiding massive visitor numbers and preserving its tranquil atmosphere.
