Curtain Bluff Reopens After £8.3m Renovation, Offering Idyllic Antiguan Escape
Curtain Bluff Reopens After £8.3m Renovation in Antigua

Nestled among palm trees on a rocky outcrop between two secluded coves, the idyllic and unassuming haven of Curtain Bluff has reopened for its 64th season. Following an extensive £8.3 million renovation under its new UK-based ownership, this Antiguan resort continues to attract loyal guests, some of whom have been returning for up to 40 years. As the only Antiguan property in the Relais and Chateaux collection, quality is assured, but it is the relaxed pace that proves most surprising and treasured.

Rooms and Facilities at Curtain Bluff

Upon entering our room, I gasped in awe. We stayed in the out-of-this-world Morris Bay suite, situated at the top of the hotel with a panoramic view across a perfectly empty beach. The sound of lapping waves and rustling palm trees created a serene backdrop. With a large terraced balcony furnished with lounge chairs, a hot tub, and its own outdoor-indoor lounge, this suite is truly in a league of its own.

The bathrooms are equipped with luxurious Molton Brown products and feature one of the most comfortable and wearable dressing gowns I have ever encountered. Beachside living is perfected in each of the 42 suites updated during the latest renovation, ensuring a blend of elegance and comfort.

Food and Drink at Curtain Bluff

The resort's signature Sea Grape restaurant also reopens this season, offering an unparalleled dining experience. Whether sipping morning coffee while gazing out to sea or enjoying an evening barefoot on the sand with champagne in hand, every meal overlooking the ocean is a unique luxury.

Fresh local food is served throughout the day, ranging from casual and light lunch options to more elevated dinner menus. The tuna tartare is a must-try dish that should not be skipped. While all-inclusive hotels are not always associated with top-notch cuisine, Curtain Bluff never compromises on quality, and the variety ensures meals never feel repetitive. The staff are a pure joy, always maintaining high spirits and a willingness to assist with any request.

Hotel Highlights at Curtain Bluff

If sitting with a book and a cocktail on the beach ever grows old, Curtain Bluff offers ample entertainment options. The world-class tennis facilities and on-site professionals are situated across the beachfronts, allowing guests to enjoy stunning views during their games. From snorkeling and jet skiing to boat trips, a wide range of water activities is available, all included in your stay.

Having never been drawn to water sports, my husband insisted we try water skiing. Our wonderful instructor was patient and kind, and I took immense pride in not only standing up but thoroughly enjoying the experience. The adult-only pool outside the beautiful spa became one of our favorite spots, reminiscent of a scene from White Lotus but without the drama.

What to Do Nearby Curtain Bluff

For those seeking adventure, take a hike up Obama Mountain or indulge in a tapas tasting menu at Sheer Rocks restaurant, ideally timed for sunset cocktails. A major highlight of our trip was visiting Shirley Heights, which hosts an amazing Antiguan BBQ every Sunday, complete with a steel drum band and delicious rum cocktails. Arriving at 3:30 pm is recommended for the best experience.

Adventure enthusiasts can explore Stingray City for an opportunity to meet ocean wildlife, while history buffs and those who enjoy beautiful strolls should head to English Harbour for stunning views and a glimpse into the past.
