Bhutan Welcomes Its First TUI Blue Hotel in Paro This May
Known for its breathtaking mountain landscapes and deep-rooted commitment to resident well-being, Bhutan, often called the 'Land of Happiness', is set to open its first TUI Blue hotel in May. This landmark development marks a significant step in the country's tourism evolution, blending luxury with cultural heritage and environmental stewardship.
A Sanctuary in the Himalayas
The TUI Blue Paro Takstang will be situated in the serene village of Shari, west of Bhutan's capital, Thimphu, in the Paro region. Nestled along a peaceful waterfront and surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, the hotel promises an immersive experience in one of Asia's most picturesque settings. With 34 rooms, the resort features a restaurant, two bars, a ballroom, and an indoor heated swimming pool, complemented by spa and gym facilities.
Honouring Heritage and Sustainability
The hotel's design pays homage to Bhutan's rich culture, incorporating traditional Bhutanese architecture and décor. In alignment with the country's vision for sustainable tourism, the property employs eco-friendly building practices and operations, ensuring minimal environmental impact. This approach reflects Bhutan's unique focus on Gross National Happiness, an index developed in 1972 to measure well-being beyond economic metrics.
Proximity to Iconic Landmarks
Guests will have easy access to some of Bhutan's most revered sites. The Tiger's Nest Monastery, a sacred 17th-century Buddhist site perched on a cliffside in Paro Valley, is a short hike away. Nearby attractions include the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang Temple and the secluded Ugyen Pelri Thang Palace. First-look photographs reveal vibrant interiors, mountain views, and an elevated outdoor terrace ideal for dining or enjoying drinks by a firepit.
TUI's Vision for Meaningful Travel
Artur Gerber, CEO of TUI Hotels and Resorts, described Bhutan as a 'truly unique and inspiring destination'. He noted that the location aligns perfectly with TUI's goal of promoting meaningful, experience-driven travel. Gerber added, 'Bringing TUI Blue to Bhutan underlines our confidence in the destination's potential and our commitment to sustainable, culturally respectful hospitality development across Asia Pacific.' The company is exploring additional projects in Bhutan and other new destinations.
Bhutan's Global Recognition
Bhutan was named Lonely Planet's 'best place to visit in 2020', praised as a 'tiny piece of Himalayan paradise' and a 'real-life Shangri-La'. The country's emphasis on happiness, community, and environmental preservation continues to attract travellers seeking authentic and transformative experiences. With this new hotel, Bhutan reinforces its status as a premier destination for sustainable luxury tourism.
