Tourists Injured in Indonesian Banana Boat Accident at Ammani Beach
Indonesian Banana Boat Accident Injures Five Tourists

For many, the idea of relaxing on a pristine Indonesian beach represents a dream holiday. However, for five unfortunate tourists, their experience took a terrifying turn due to a dramatic speedboat accident. The incident underscores how quickly leisure can transform into peril.

The Moment of Impact

Footage from the scene captures the alarming sequence of events. A speedboat was towing an inflatable "donut" or banana boat across the waters near Pinrang Regency in South Sulawesi. Without warning, the vessel veered dangerously close to the shoreline of Pantai Harapan Ammani Beach.

In a split second, the inflatable craft struck the beach, catapulting into the air and flipping violently. Five tourists, all wearing distinctive orange life vests, were hurled from their seats. They soared through the air before crashing down onto the sand, tragically landing atop fleeing children who were caught in the path.

Aftermath and Injuries

Local authorities confirmed that a total of five individuals sustained injuries in the March 31st accident. Three of the victims required immediate medical attention, including intravenous drips, following the crash. Several young children were also seen wailing in distress after apparently being struck by the airborne inflatable.

Tourist Esty, who suffered multiple bruises, recounted the event. "There were five of us on a banana boat playing in the middle of the ocean, and everything went really well," she said. "The sea was calm, with no big waves. It seems the driver misjudged the turn. We were too close to the shore, and the accident happened."

Esty described ongoing pain, noting, "My chest hurts from the fall, and my neck hurts too. I had trouble getting dressed. But it's getting better now."

Official Response and Apologies

Amor Paturusi, head of Mattirotasi Village where the beach is located, addressed the incident. "The event that occurred is under evaluation for the Ammani Beach management," Paturusi stated. "What happened was unintentional. The management also apologised and assured us that the injured victims are receiving treatment."

He further emphasised commitments to improve safety protocols. "We will enhance our operations and collaborate with the tourism office to provide comprehensive training. This will ensure future tourism management is both safer and more comfortable for all visitors."

Esty confirmed that the management had apologised and assisted with medical expenses. Despite the ordeal, the victims chose not to pursue legal claims after receiving refunds and necessary medical aid.

This alarming event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of rigorous safety standards in tourist activities, even in seemingly tranquil settings.
