Tourist's Tenerife Tan Trip Foiled by Unseasonal Cloudy Weather

A tourist who recently travelled to Tenerife with hopes of returning home with a golden tan instead came back with a very different experience, as unseasonably cloudy and cold weather disrupted her holiday plans. Vicky Walton shared her unexpected story, revealing that her trip to the popular Canary Islands destination turned out to be nothing like she had anticipated.

Cloudy Skies Replace Expected Sunshine

Vicky Walton jetted off to Tenerife during the peak travel season, aiming to soak up the sun and achieve a bronzed complexion. However, upon arrival, she was left floored by the dismal conditions that greeted her. In a TikTok video documenting her trip, she captioned it with, "Tenerife. Came for the sun. Leaving with the clouds," and added, "Won't be bringing the sun back home with me!" The footage clearly depicted overcast skies, and Vicky implied that temperatures were surprisingly chilly, far from the warm climate typically associated with the island.

Other Tourists Report Similar Weather Woes

Vicky is not alone in her disappointment. Numerous other holidaymakers have come forward to share their own experiences of poor weather in Tenerife recently. One frustrated visitor commented, "I was there yesterday. I’m sick of Tenerife and the weather. Five times I’ve been here - never had a full week of nice weather. Never coming back!" Another added, "Right now the whole island is like this, with a storm alert. We have spent the coldest winter of our lives. We have had intermittent storms for two months." Additional reports included complaints of cold and cloudy days, with one person even noting they had to resort to using a hot water bottle for warmth.

However, not all tourists faced such gloomy conditions. Some reported better weather during their visits, with one stating, "Very warm here today," and another mentioning temperatures reaching 32°C at 2pm. A different individual shared, "Came home on Thursday after a full week of sun," highlighting the varied experiences among visitors.

Understanding Tenerife's Unusual Weather Patterns

Tenerife is renowned for its year-round warm weather, often dubbed the "island of eternal spring." Typically, temperatures average between 18°C to 21°C in winter and 24°C to 28°C in summer, with the south coast being warmer and drier than the north. August is usually the hottest month, with temperatures often climbing to 29°C.

Despite this reputation, the island has recently been grappling with storms, wind, and rain. In March, Storm Therese struck, bringing unusually low temperatures, bleak conditions, cancelled flights, and even snow warnings in certain areas. Over the past few weeks, many tourists have observed that the weather has been more unsettled than usual, though some regions have been more severely impacted than others.

This trend of unexpected weather issues isn't isolated to Vicky's experience. Just weeks ago, some holidaymakers admitted to booking early flights home due to similar problems, underscoring a broader pattern of climatic disruptions affecting travel plans to Tenerife.
