According to official reports from state media, a substantial 95-metre section of the structure failed catastrophically while workers were actively present on site. The affected structure was identified as the Yuegang Bridge, which forms part of the important Lianyungang–Shanghai railway line development.
Rescue Operations and Fatalities
Emergency services were immediately dispatched following the collapse, with municipal and county governments in Yancheng coordinating comprehensive rescue operations and on-site response efforts. During the initial rescue phase, two workers were successfully pulled from the wreckage but tragically succumbed to their injuries shortly afterward. A thorough overnight search continued for three additional missing workers before concluding on Tuesday morning when their bodies were recovered, bringing the total confirmed death toll to five individuals.
