Jet2 Reassures Customers: 'Only Oil to Worry About Is Sun Oil'
Jet2: Only Oil to Worry About Is Sun Oil

Jet2 has moved to reassure customers that summer holidays will proceed as normal, emphasising that the “only oil you need to worry about is your sun oil.” The UK’s third-largest airline confirmed it has secured adequate fuel supplies and will not impose any surcharges on bookings.

Positive Updates from Fuel Suppliers

The airline reported receiving “positive updates” from its fuel suppliers, indicating increased production and additional imports from regions unaffected by the Middle East conflict. A spokesperson told The Independent that demand across Jet2’s 14 UK airport bases is expected to grow further in response to this news. Popular destinations including the Balearics, Canaries, Turkey, mainland Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Croatia and Bulgaria are anticipated to see heightened demand throughout the summer season.

“This is great news for holidaymakers and their much-loved summer holidays. The only oil that holidaymakers need to worry about this summer is their sun oil,” the spokesperson stated.

No Surcharges and Price Guarantee

Jet2 also confirmed that it will not introduce surcharges on any booked flights or holidays to cover cost increases, and has removed its surcharge provision entirely. The airline emphasised that the price customers see at the time of booking is the final price they will pay. Additionally, Jet2 has pledged swift refunds and flexibility in the event of any flight or holiday cancellations.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, commented: “We have always been very clear about our plans to operate as normal this summer. With the current picture showing increased production and imports of jet fuel, we are delighted to be sending out the message to holidaymakers that summer is on, and the response to that has been excellent. People can look forward to enjoying their holidays with Jet2 and that is fantastic news.”

Heapy added: “As everyone knows, when confidence returns it can return very quickly, meaning that now is the perfect time to get that well-deserved holiday booked. The best deals, best rooms, best hotels and best destinations will sell quickly and, as it does, we are looking forward to welcoming all of our customers onboard ahead of an exciting summer.”

Industry Context

Jet2’s announcement comes amid reports that some airlines are imposing fuel surcharges or cancelling flights due to rising costs. German carrier Lufthansa has cancelled more summer flights than any other European airline, grounding at least 20,000 departures, largely through the shutdown of its regional subsidiary CityLine. Meanwhile, the Air France-KLM group plans to increase long-haul ticket prices by 50 euros (£43) per round trip to address surging fuel costs. SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, has imposed a temporary fuel surcharge of 10 euros per passenger on routes between Turkey and Europe from 1 May.

However, most British airlines have followed Jet2’s lead in reassuring customers. EasyJet Holidays, Tui and Irish airline Ryanair have all confirmed that booked holidays and flights will not be subject to fuel surcharges.
