Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has unveiled a new 'Weekend Hopper' fare that will allow passengers to enjoy unlimited bus and tram travel across the capital on Saturdays and Sundays for the price of a single fare. The initiative runs from 25 July to 31 August 2026, with the promotion also extending to the August bank holiday Monday.
How the Weekend Hopper Works
Currently, a single bus fare in London costs £1.75. Under the new Weekend Hopper scheme, passengers will pay this same amount for unlimited bus and tram journeys on weekends. The fare will be automatically applied for pay-as-you-go users, meaning no additional steps are required to benefit from the offer.
Celebrating a Decade of the Hopper Fare
The Weekend Hopper marks the 10th anniversary of the Transport for London (TfL) Hopper fare, which originally allowed passengers to make unlimited bus and tram transfers within one hour for a single fare. This new weekend version expands on that concept, providing all-day travel at no extra cost.
Mayor Khan stated, "This is a fantastic way for Londoners and visitors to explore our great city affordably this summer. Whether you're heading to a park, a museum, or just enjoying a day out, the Weekend Hopper makes travel simpler and cheaper."
Making Summer Travel More Affordable
The promotion is designed to ease the cost of living for families and encourage more people to use public transport during the summer months. With unlimited travel on buses and trams, passengers can make multiple trips without worrying about additional fares.
TfL expects the Weekend Hopper to be particularly popular among families and tourists, who can now travel across London for a fraction of the usual cost. The scheme also aims to reduce congestion by encouraging more people to leave their cars at home.
