M60 Motorway Shuts After Car Fire During Rush Hour

Drivers are facing major delays this morning after a stretch of the M60 motorway was partially shut down due to a car fire. The incident occurred near the exit for Whitefield in Greater Manchester, causing significant disruption during rush hour.

Car Fire on Hard Shoulder

The vehicle was seen engulfed in flames on the hard shoulder of the motorway just after 7am this morning (Monday, May 11). Emergency services rushed to the scene, and two lanes have been closed on the clockwise carriageway between junction 16 for Pendlebury and junction 17 for Prestwich and Whitefield.

Traffic Congestion Building

According to traffic alert service Inrix, traffic is moving 'very slowly' up to the incident, with motorway cameras showing queues building rapidly. Congestion has now stretched back to junction 14 for the A580 East Lancashire Road, with lane closures still in place. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes or allow extra travel time.
