Netflix's dark and disturbing cult thriller Unchosen is set in a stunning rural location, but where was it actually filmed? The series, which follows Rosie (Molly Windsor) as she feels trapped within an oppressive religious cult, primarily filmed at Shepperton Studios and on location around Surrey and London.
Filming Locations for Unchosen
The series was filmed primarily at Shepperton Studios, with additional location shooting in Surrey and London. Actress Molly Windsor shared her love for the forest scenes, telling Country and Townhouse: "I can’t remember where it was, but I really loved the scenes in the woods. There was something really beautiful and peaceful about the location when Rosie goes back in episode one."
Director's Vision
Director Jim Loach explained his choice of locations, saying he wanted to create a sense of "psychological claustrophobia" for the characters. He noted: "We wanted everywhere to feel a little unsettling, even if it wasn’t always obvious what it might be. That informed a lot of how we approached it from a visual point of view – choice of lenses, locations, framing, everything."
Loach added that Surrey was chosen for its contrast: "Surrey is a nice area, quite affluent in parts, but we weren’t interested in anything that felt benign. The exterior shots were filmed in low light to offer a feeling that someone could be listening in out of sight."
Production Details
