A British father who ventured into the notorious early-morning sunbed scramble at a Spanish resort has become an online sensation after his family turned his mission into a spectator sport from their balcony. Nicole Mason-Price, 35, from the West Midlands, admitted she and her four-year-old daughter Nevada enthusiastically cheered on her husband Shawn, 34, as he joined dozens of tourists battling for loungers at the Golden Donaire Beach Hotel.
The Early Morning Chaos
Despite the pool not opening until 9am, determined holidaymakers began queuing from around 7.45am to secure prime spots. Nicole described the scene: "People push, swear and shout and claim more sunbeds than they should, which causes arguments." Earlier in their holiday, the family had avoided the mayhem by heading to the beach instead. But on 16 May, their daughter insisted on using the pool, leaving Shawn no choice but to face the queue.
Family Support from Above
As tensions mounted around the pool area, Nicole and Nevada observed from their balcony and began encouraging Shawn as if he were competing in a sporting event. The commotion drew the attention of a neighbouring guest, who joined in the cheering. Nicole laughed: "The man next door came onto his balcony when he heard the shouting and joined in cheering on my husband. My husband was super embarrassed as we were all cheering."
According to Nicole, tensions escalated as holidaymakers rushed to reserve multiple beds with towels before heading off for breakfast. The hotel has rules preventing guests from leaving sunbeds unoccupied for more than 15 minutes, but she claims many ignore them. "People leave them for hours whilst they're having breakfast," she said. In some cases, frustrated tourists allegedly throw abandoned towels into the pool.
The chaotic footage quickly entertained viewers online, with many acknowledging that the daily battle for loungers has become an inescapable part of package holidays abroad.
