Tess and Vernon's Split: Emotional Toast Sealed the Deal

Vernon Kay and Tess Daly made a toast to their new lives apart on the night they confirmed their marriage was over, as the Mirror reveals new details about their split. The couple have vowed to 'keep it classy' when it comes to their separation and were even sat together when they hit publish on their joint statement that left fans stunned.

During an emotional Friday night at their home - where they are still living together - the couple drank champagne and “celebrated the new chapter ahead.” A source close to the couple said: “After they released the statement, Vernon and Tess made a toast and they also toasted each other and their futures. They only want the best for each other and their family. There has been no big fallout, more a gradual growing apart and wanting different things. They have vowed to stay friends and to keep things classy when it comes to the split and any future interviews they give. They only want the best for each other.”

The pair are said to be both in a good place despite the shock news and are wanting to focus on their girls and their independent careers. The couple are still living together in their six-bedroom family home in Buckinghamshire. In time Vernon is expected to be the more likely one to move out, as he ideally needs a London base or somewhere close by for hosting his BBC Radio 2 show.

Insiders pointed to the fact the pair hosted The One Show at the end of February as proof they still get on well. There were no signs on screen of any issues between the pair. Tess even shared a selfie of them outside Television Studios to Instagram and wrote: "Back where it all began at television Centre. Always brings back such lovely memories."

In a statement posted on their Instagram Stories, Tess and Vernon - who have daughters Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16 - said: "After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably. This has not been an easy decision, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire for what is best for both of us. We remain great friends and most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority. There are no other parties involved in this decision. We kindly ask for privacy during this time as we navigate this transition together. We will not be making any further public comments."

The former Strictly Come Dancing presenter, 57, and the BBC Radio 2 DJ, aged 52, are parents to daughter Phoebe, born in October 2004, and Amber, born in May 2009. The pair married in 2003 in Bolton and renewed their vows in 2013. Both are former models who carved out successful careers as presenters. Their marriage made headlines in 2010 when Kay admitted he sent explicit texts to around five women, going on to apologise to hundreds of thousands of listeners on the Radio 1 show he hosted at the time. He interrupted the programme to tell his two million listeners he had been “foolish and stupid”. However a month later, Daly said their partnership was “worth fighting for” because they had had “10 great years together” and shared “two beautiful kids”.
