Jason Lewis, the actor famed for portraying Smith Jerrod, the love interest of Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones on Sex and the City, has ended a three-year hiatus from social media. On Tuesday, the 54-year-old posted a video on Instagram showing himself walking on a tropical beach, captioning it, 'After three years, it was time.'
A Hiatus Explained
In the video, Lewis stated that in 2023 he 'went quiet. Not because I have nothing to say but because I had something to do.' He elaborated, 'The kind of creative work that doesn't leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that.' He added that such work needs to find its audience, and he felt it was time to resurface and share his recent endeavors, signing off with 'More to come.'
Career Highlights
Lewis enjoyed a successful acting career following his Sex and the City role, appearing in series such as Charmed, Beverly Hills, 90210, House, Brothers & Sisters, and How I Met Your Mother. His last on-screen appearance was in 2022 on Dancing With the Stars, where he was the first contestant eliminated.
Sex and the City Legacy
Lewis's character Smith Jerrod was a young waiter and aspiring actor seduced by Samantha Jones. She convinced him to change his name from Jerry Jerrod to Smith and used her PR connections to secure him a major modeling gig and a film role. Their relationship evolved from casual to serious after he supported her through breast cancer. The couple remained together at the end of the original series in 2004. Lewis reprised the role in Sex and the City: The Movie (2008), where they broke up after Samantha moved to Los Angeles. He returned for Sex and the City 2 (2010), where they remained on good terms. In 2021, Lewis confirmed he would not appear in the revival series ...And Just Like That, stating, 'I have not, but I would be the last to know! The conversation is about the girls.'
Personal Life
In late 2019, Lewis proposed to his girlfriend, producer Liz Godwin. He described the proposal to People magazine in February 2020: 'To keep Liz from suspecting anything, I organized a climbing and beach day out at Point Dume, Malibu, with friends and family gathered for the holidays. We set Liz up to climb a cliff right over the water, just before sunset. My buddies and I then sprinted up a back trail to the climb so I could be waiting for her at the top. I anchored myself to the rock — clipped her to me, just in case — then got on one knee and did "the thing."' Previously, Lewis dated actress Rosario Dawson from 2005 to 2006.
