Gavin and Stacey came to an end in 2024, leaving viewers heartbroken. Now, one guest star has spoken candidly about working with Nessa Jenkins actress Ruth Jones and Joanna Page, who plays Stacey.
Kyle Lima's Experience on Set
Kyle Lima reminisced about filming the 2019 Christmas special, portraying one of Nessa's ex-boyfriends. He revealed: "It was the last day of filming for the Christmas special when they did my scene."
During the scene, Lima was joined by Ruth Jones and Joanna Page. He described them as "really nice." The scene took place in an arcade where Nessa gives him a back tattoo. Lima admitted he didn't know if he would be shirtless, so he hired a personal trainer to get fit. In between shots, he did push-ups, but ultimately the vest stayed on.
Ruth Jones' Real Personality
Speaking to Betway, Lima said: "I don't come from an acting background or a theatre family. So just for me personally, coming from humble beginnings and having watched the show, it was a real treat to be in that company for the smaller role I played."
Both Lima and the cast believed the BBC comedy, penned by Ruth Jones and James Corden, would mark their final appearance together. "It was just a really lovely day. Everyone was excited," he recalled. The director, Christine, was "brilliant and very kind." She hugged everyone, and because it was five years before the actual finale, they thought it was the end.
Unexpected Continuation
To the delight of fans, the 2019 special wasn't the concluding installment. The ensemble later reunited for the finale, where Smithy and Nessa finally acknowledged their feelings and married in Barry, surrounded by loved ones.
Lima described the atmosphere on Barry Island as "like Beatles Mania," with fans clamoring to see the shoot. "We drove down behind the venue on the promenade, and they snuck us through. It was real excitement."
The crew thought the 2019 episode was the last ever. As a newbie, Lima brought chocolates as a thank you. "It was really lovely," he added.
Gavin and Stacey is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
