Kate Middleton's Nervous Remark to Mary Berry Revealed

Dame Mary Berry, the renowned baker and National Treasure, has shared a touching moment with Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, during the filming of a BBC programme. The 91-year-old former Great British Bake Off judge revealed how the future Queen, now 44, confessed to feeling 'rather nervous' as they worked together on a segment covering the transfer of Kate's 'Back to Nature' garden from Chelsea to Wisley.

A Moment of Reassurance

Speaking at the RHS President's Lunch, Dame Mary recounted the incident. 'We were filming together for part of my BBC cooking programme, and I remember well walking up the hill to her garden in Wisley, and she said, 'I'm feeling rather nervous' as she grabbed my arm,' Dame Mary told the audience. She responded with characteristic wit: 'And I replied: 'What do you think I feel!' She was utterly charming and relaxed, and we ended up icing cupcakes.'

Dame Mary's BAFTA Fellowship

Dame Mary's remarks come on the heels of her receiving the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship at the BAFTA TV Awards earlier this month. Accepting the award, she dedicated it to her family, including her son William, who tragically passed away in 1989 at the age of 19. 'And to our children, Thomas, William, and Annabel. William is in heaven, but I thank him,' she said emotionally. Reflecting on the honour, she added, 'It is the most amazing award, such an honour. Aren't I lucky? You just wish that your parents were still alive and you'd get on the phone and you'd say 'guess what Mum!' On Bake Off we won an award, and I also won an award for being best judge, but this is something quite different.'

Continuing Her Legacy

Despite her decades-long career and latest accolade, Dame Mary shows no signs of slowing down. She announced plans to launch her own YouTube channel, where she will share recipes with her followers. 'We're just starting on the YouTube channel and it will have all sorts of recipes - updated recipes, going in on detail, telling people where they'll go wrong and hoping that they'll get success following simple recipes,' she said. 'I'm open to all sorts of things! I love learning more about things that happen.'
