Sharon Stone and Eva Longoria brought Hollywood glamour to the French Riviera on Tuesday, stepping out for a night on the town during the Cannes Film Festival. Stone, 68, epitomised elegance in a show-stopping strapless gown featuring a voluminous bow and a matching black belt that cinched her tiny waist. For added impact, the Oscar-nominated actress draped a long coat over her arms with voluminous sleeves that flowed into a dramatically long train. She was dripping in diamonds for her night out, having dazzled earlier on the red carpet at the premiere of the film 'Diamond'.
Longoria, 51, commanded attention in an emerald green gown that clung to her enviable figure, paired with gold strappy stilettos. The Desperate Housewives star's high-necked number boasted a stylish satin skirt and a racy cutout across her back for a sultry touch.
'Diamond' Premiere
The film 'Diamond' stars Andy Garcia as private detective Joe Diamond, a man haunted by his traumatic past who uses his exceptional wit and keen observation to solve crimes that have stumped the LAPD. Garcia, known for his role in 'The Untouchables', also wrote and directed the crime drama and co-composed the score with Arturo Sandoval. The star-studded cast includes Hollywood heavyweights Brendan Fraser, Dustin Hoffman, Bill Murray, Vicky Krieps, and Rosemarie DeWitt. The film has been a 20-year passion project for Garcia, who couldn't hold back his tears at the premiere as he urged people to follow their dreams, adding: 'As my father would always say, never take a step backward - not even to gain momentum.'
Personal Tragedy
Stone's appearance at the premiere and her outing with Longoria come as she continues to cope with recent heartbreaking loss. Last week, she revealed that her older brother had passed away. Taking to Instagram, the Basic Instinct star announced that musician Mike Stone had died at age 74 after battling an illness for several years. Sharing a snap of her late sibling, Stone wrote: 'Mike Stone, My oldest brother, Has passed away. Following an extended illness. We wish him peace', signing off with her name and those of her three sons, Roan, 25, Laird, 21, and Quinn, 19. Like his sister, Mike was also an actor and musician, appearing in films throughout the 1990s, including 'Eraser' and 'Malevolence'. He also played a counselor opposite Stone in the 1995 film 'The Quick And The Dead', starring Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio.
This marks another tragic family loss for the Casino star, coming just over a year after her mother Dorothy Stone passed away at age 91 in March. Her father, Joseph William Stone II, died in 2009 at age 81. Stone had been caring for her mother in her Beverly Hills mansion during her final years after Dorothy suffered several strokes. Despite their 'tough' relationship, Stone credited her mother with teaching her to 'stand on her own two feet'. She heartbreakingly revealed that her mother's final words to her were: 'You talk too much, you make me want to commit suicide' – a hard parting message.
Mike's death also comes three years after the loss of their other brother, Patrick Stone, at age 57, which occurred 18 months after his 11-month-old son River died from organ failure. Patrick passed away in Pennsylvania in February 2023 after a heart attack, which his wife Tasha described as his heart 'being ripped out of my chest' following their son's death. Stone confirmed the passing on social media, expressing extreme heartache and calling her brother a 'gentle soul' with a 'wonderful sense of humor'. Her last remaining sibling is her younger sister Kelly Stone, 65, with whom she founded charity Planet Hope in the 1990s to provide outreach and resources to those in need, including homeless individuals, victims of natural disasters, and terminally ill children and their families.
