Slimming World members from Coatbridge have raised £2,165 for Cancer Research UK by taking part in the charity's Race for Life event in Falkirk. The group, led by consultant Stacey McKendrick and including participants from Whifflet, completed the 10K challenge together, with donations still coming in.
Personal Motivation Drives Fundraising
For Stacey McKendrick, the event was particularly emotional as she ran in memory of her father, who died from lung cancer. She told Lanarkshire Live: "Race for Life has always meant so much to me, but sharing it with my members made this year incredibly special. Watching everyone encourage each other, celebrate every milestone and cross the finish line together reminded me exactly why I love what I do."
Despite warm weather, all participants finished with smiles and medals. Many members completed their first 10K, demonstrating the power of support. Stacey added: "I couldn't be prouder of every single person who took part. We didn't just raise money for a fantastic cause we built confidence, created memories and showed the true spirit of our Slimming World family. Thank you to everyone who donated, sponsored us and cheered us on. Every pound raised will help Cancer Research UK continue its life saving work."
Community Spirit and Slimming World Values
Stacey runs Slimming World groups across North Lanarkshire and says the Race for Life reflects the groups' ethos of supporting one another to improve health while giving back to the community. The group, made up of members of all ages and abilities, proudly completed the challenge together, showing that with encouragement, friendship and determination, anything is possible.
