Australian radio host Carrie Bickmore has been hospitalised for treatment on her vocal cords, weeks after stepping away from her Hit Network show. The 45-year-old co-host of the Carrie & Tommy Show shared an image of herself in a hospital bed on Instagram Stories on Tuesday night, captioning it: 'OK voice... time to come back [crossed fingers emoji].'
Bickmore had previously revealed that her vocal cords were 'in a very bad way' and that she needed time off to avoid permanent damage. 'If I don’t get it fixed now, they will be permanently damaged, which will be very unfortunate for my job,' she told listeners, becoming tearful as she expressed her fear of never being able to return to work.
Her co-host Tommy Little offered support, saying: 'We just want you healthy and back to 100%, Carrie.' Bickmore’s absence from the airwaves began a fortnight ago, and she has now indicated she may undergo a procedure to correct the issue.
The radio star has been open about her struggles in the past, sharing a crying photo last year to remind followers that 'we all have sad days.' She wrote: 'We all have sad days/weeks/months for so many varied reasons, and if you are having a shit one, I hope tomorrow is a brighter day. You are not alone.'
