Rasmus Hojlund has claimed he was not wanted by Ruben Amorim at Manchester United and felt 'put in a bit of a box' before his loan move to Napoli. The Danish striker joined United for £72 million in 2023 but struggled in his second season, scoring only 10 goals in 52 appearances.
Hojlund was allowed to join Napoli on loan last September, with a £38 million permanent transfer set to be triggered if the Serie A side qualify for the Champions League. The 23-year-old has rediscovered his form under Antonio Conte, netting 14 goals in 37 games this term.
Speaking to TV2, Hojlund said: 'I got what I wanted with my transfer. I got a team that believes in me a lot. A club that believes in me a lot. A sporting director, a president and a coach who wants me.' He added that his future at United became clear after Amorim left him out of the Premier League opener against Arsenal in August.
'I was put in a bit of a box at the end in Manchester. I knew there wouldn't be much football for me if it continued like this,' Hojlund said. He also addressed media scrutiny, acknowledging the challenge of ignoring negative coverage but stressing the importance of maintaining perspective.
Hojlund's comments come as he continues to thrive in Italy, while United have struggled for consistency under Amorim.
