Dan Walker Faces Employment Tribunal Over Bullying and Sexism Allegations
Dan Walker Tribunal Over Bullying and Sexism Claims

Former BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker is scheduled to appear at an employment tribunal later this month, facing serious allegations from his former Channel 5 News co-anchor Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije. The claims include accusations of workplace bullying, misogyny, and sexism during their time working together.

Tribunal Details and Allegations

The hearing is set to begin on 20 April in London and is expected to last up to four days. Walker, 49, who joined Channel 5 News in April 2022, is named as a respondent alongside ITN, which produces the programme, and Channel 5's parent company Paramount.

Ms Vanderpuije, 47, left Channel 5 in 2023 after five years on the programme. She has brought these claims following her final year working alongside Walker at the broadcaster. The allegations represent a significant legal challenge for the prominent television presenter.

Walker's Response and Support

Walker has strongly denied all allegations against him. An ITN spokesperson stated: "This claim, which is denied in full, will be addressed through the tribunal process." Sources close to Walker indicate he will attend the tribunal to clear his name, with significant support expected from colleagues and associates.

It is understood that more than 50 character witness statements have been submitted in support of Walker. These include testimonials from footballers, Olympians, BBC journalists and presenters, and other professional colleagues who have worked with him over the years.

Previous Investigation and Legal Representation

Walker was previously subject to an internal workplace investigation into alleged misconduct, which was not upheld. Sources familiar with that inquiry said there was insufficient evidence to support the complaints and that Walker cooperated fully with the investigation.

Speaking to The Telegraph last year about the previous investigation, Walker said: "I haven't really talked about it, but that was fully investigated and everything was completely incorrect and I was entirely vindicated by an independent inquiry."

Ms Vanderpuije is being represented by lawyer Jonathan Coad, who previously represented Philip Schofield. According to reports, attempts have been made to settle the complaint twice, but these have been turned down.

Social Media Activity and Personal Impact

Vanderpuije reportedly asked her Instagram followers to message her two weeks ago if they wanted to "know more about the allegations." This social media activity has added another dimension to the developing story.

Walker, a father of three, expressed his distress about the allegations, stating: "I know I'm not that person, so... And yeah there's days you worry about that but also you know that that's a picture you don't recognise, and nobody you've ever worked with recognises."

The employment tribunal represents a critical moment for both parties, with significant implications for their professional reputations and careers in broadcasting.
