Brutal Thug Receives Six-Year Sentence for 'Worst Domestic Abuse' Case
A violent offender has been jailed for six years after subjecting his pregnant girlfriend to a series of horrific assaults, described by a judge as the worst domestic abuse case encountered in his 25-year legal career. Lewis Taylor, 36, from Ashford, left his victim bloodied, bruised, and degraded during multiple attacks in her Sheppey home, culminating in him urinating on her.
Paranoid Attacks and Degrading Assaults
Taylor's campaign of terror began in June last year, driven by paranoid delusions that his partner had been unfaithful and was carrying another man's child. During one particularly vicious assault, he smashed her head against a toilet cistern, dragged her by her hair, and struck her against walls and floors. When she bit him in self-defence, he responded by spitting in her face and urinating over her legs, adding to her humiliation.
The court heard how Taylor, a convicted drug dealer, also screamed at his victim to get rid of her baby during a phone call, and in another attack, squeezed her face so hard that she was left with two black eyes. His behaviour was described as a clear example of manipulation and control, with the judge noting that attacking a pregnant woman spoke volumes about his character.
Brave Testimony and Courtroom Gaslighting
The victim bravely gave evidence during Taylor's trial at Maidstone Crown Court, where he denied multiple charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating, intentional strangulation, and criminal damage. Despite his attempts to gaslight her by claiming she was mentally unwell and had injured herself, the jury found him guilty on the majority of charges based on clear and compelling evidence.
Judge Daniel Stevenson praised the mother for her courage, telling her she could hold her head high after detailing the extent of her suffering. It was revealed during sentencing that, although this was Taylor's first domestic abuse conviction, two other women had previously made complaints about his violent conduct, and a restraining order was already in place against him.
Devastating Impact and Previous Criminal History
In her victim impact statement, the woman described the profound trauma she endured, including having to live apart from her children for a week to hide her injuries. She revealed she had to throw away blood-covered toys, became triggered by noises, installed security measures, and developed eating disorders due to Taylor's comments about her body. Me, my children and our baby meant nothing to him, she stated, highlighting his complete lack of remorse.
Taylor was already on licence from a previous 58-month prison sentence for involvement in a national cocaine syndicate when he committed these offences, and he has six previous convictions for 11 offences, including threatening violence. He has now been handed a 15-year restraining order in addition to his six-year jail term.
Judge Stevenson concluded by emphasising the severity of the case, stating that the photos of her injuries and her description of the assault represented the worst example of domestic ABH he had ever encountered. She loved you and you completely violated the trust that is supposed to exist between two people in a relationship, he told Taylor during sentencing.
