Taylor Swift's First Manager Reveals Why He Quit After Two Years

Taylor Swift's first manager, Rick Barker, has opened up about his decision to step down after just two years, citing the toll the job took on his health and family life. Barker, who managed Swift from 2006 to 2008, shared his story on ITV's Lorraine programme.

Barker explained that during his final year with Swift, he was away from home for 187 days, weighed nearly 300 pounds, and felt unhealthy. With a six-year-old and a four-year-old at home, he questioned the cost of his career. 'I'm going to make more money than I've ever seen in my life, but at what expense? Is it going to go on alimony, child support?' he said.

He recalled telling Swift over lunch that he was leaving, saying, 'I will forever be grateful for the opportunity, I will always be a fan. The family means more to me.' Barker noted that Swift understood his decision, adding that 'it wasn't fun anymore' for him by the end.

Barker's comments come ahead of a new Channel 4 documentary, Taylor: The Star Who Changed The World, which explores Swift's 20-year career. The two-part series features interviews with band members, industry professionals, and fans, and airs on Tuesday 30th September at 9.15pm.
