Girl's Brain Tumour Fight Inspires Charity Climb

An 11-year-old girl undergoing chemotherapy for a brain tumour has inspired a family friend to take on a gruelling charity climb. Michael Baron, father of one of Bethany Wall's close friends, will ascend Rivington Pike near Bolton 11 times in a single day on July 26 to raise money for The Little Princess Trust, which provided Bethany with a real-hair wig after she lost her hair during treatment.

Bethany's Diagnosis and Fears

Bethany Wall, from Preston, Lancashire, is receiving treatment at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital following her brain tumour diagnosis. According to LancsLive, one of her biggest concerns was how her appearance would change and how others would react. The Little Princess Trust provided a bespoke real-hair wig free of charge, helping restore her confidence.

The Challenge

Michael Baron will climb Rivington Pike 11 times, one ascent for each year of Bethany's life. The challenge covers approximately 66km on foot and 2,800 metres of elevation gain, equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis more than twice. Organisers hope Bethany, her family, and friends will join Michael for the final climb if she is feeling well enough.

Fundraising Goal and Progress

Each wig from The Little Princess Trust costs around £700, and Michael's target is £2,100 to fund three wigs. As of the latest update, nearly £3,000 has been raised from 75 donations. Bid Writing Service (BWS) kick-started the campaign with a £250 donation. The fundraiser is also seeking business sponsors for each of the 11 climbs.

Bethany's father, Alan Wall, said: "The whole family were shocked when we heard that Bethany has a brain tumour that required chemotherapy to treat. The care and support from Royal Manchester Children's Hospital has been amazing. One of Bethany's biggest fears was how other people would react to her changing appearance. The Little Princess Trust have provided her with the reassurance and support that she can do this."

All funds raised will go towards wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment, helping them face their diagnosis with greater confidence.
