Jannik Sinner Defeats Carlos Alcaraz to Retain ATP Finals Title

Jannik Sinner produced a supreme performance to defeat Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (4), 7-5 and successfully defend his title at the ATP Finals in Turin. Playing on his favourite indoor hard court before a rowdy home crowd, the Italian closed out his immense season with a statement victory against his great rival.

Despite a three-month doping ban that abbreviated his season, Sinner finishes 2025 with six titles, a 58-6 win-loss record and three of the five biggest titles of the year. He is now the dominant player on indoor hard courts, having won 31 consecutive matches on the surface dating back to Italy's Davis Cup triumph in 2023. At 24, he is the youngest man to defend an ATP Finals title since Roger Federer in 2004 and only the second after Novak Djokovic to win consecutively without dropping a set.

The victory was particularly significant as Sinner struck back after losing seven of his previous eight matches against Alcaraz. Following his defeat by Alcaraz at the US Open, Sinner worked on incorporating more drop shots and net play into his game, and adjusted his service technique. These improvements paid off in Turin, where his serving was decisive in key moments.

Both players started the match serving precisely and hitting with great intensity. A 10-minute break due to a medical emergency in the crowd did not disrupt their momentum. Alcaraz had a set point at 6-5 on Sinner's serve, but the Italian responded with a spectacular 116mph second serve to save it, then won the tie-break with two brilliant lobs. Alcaraz struggled with a right hamstring issue from midway through the first set, receiving treatment and having his hamstring taped, but Sinner's relentless pressure proved too much.

Sinner broke early in the second set and, spurred on by the crowd, celebrated emphatically, cupping his ears and raising his racket to demand more noise. He closed out the match in two sets, ending his season with a perfect result and a 15-match winning run.
