X Factor's Chico Pleads Not Guilty to Drink-Driving Charge
Chico denies drink-driving after court appearance

Former X Factor contestant Chico has appeared before magistrates and formally denied a charge of drink-driving. The entertainer, whose real name is Yousseph Slimani, entered his plea at Willesden Magistrates' Court.

The Alleged Offence and Court Hearing

The case relates to an incident alleged to have occurred on 13 December in Chase Way, Southgate. Prosecutors stated that Slimani was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Astra and provided a breath sample containing 40 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

This reading is above the legal limit for England, which is set at 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres. The details were presented to the court on Tuesday, 30 December.

Chico's Not Guilty Plea and Bail Conditions

During the hearing, Yousseph Slimani pleaded not guilty to the single charge of drink-driving. The 54-year-old was subsequently granted bail by the magistrates.

His case has been scheduled for a future trial. Slimani is due to return to court on 9 April for the proceedings to continue.

From Reality TV to the Courtroom

The defendant rose to fame in 2005 as a memorable contestant on the hit ITV talent show The X Factor. Following his stint on the programme, he achieved chart success with his debut single 'It's Chico Time', which reached number one in the UK.

His recent court appearance marks a stark contrast to his upbeat, entertainer persona, famously associated with catchy pop tunes and energetic performances.
