American actress Tara Reid, best known for her role as Vicky Lathum in the American Pie film series, was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning after falling seriously ill at a hotel in Chicago, Illinois.
The incident occurred around 3am, with paramedics transporting the 50-year-old star from the hotel lobby on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance. Witnesses reported that Reid appeared visibly dazed during the ordeal.
The Incident and Police Report
A representative for the actress later confirmed that Reid believes her drink was tampered with. In an official statement, they said: "Tara Reid has filed a police report after an incident in which she believes her drink was tampered with. She is cooperating fully with the investigation."
The statement continued, emphasising a public safety warning from Reid herself: "Tara is recovering and asks for privacy during this traumatic time. She also urges everyone to be careful, watch your drinks and never leave them unattended, as this can happen to anyone."
However, conflicting reports suggest that while a representative has stated a report was filed, the police report is yet to be formally completed.
A Traumatic Ordeal and a Public Warning
Details from the scene describe a confused exchange, where it is alleged a paramedic told Tara, "We’re going to take you to your room, okay?" to which Reid reportedly responded, "You don't know who I am. I am famous. I'm an actress."
It is reported that Reid fell unconscious during the episode and has little memory of the events. Speaking about the traumatic experience on Monday, she expressed relief that it happened in a public setting. "I'm just glad that I was in a public place," she said, adding, "there was security there to help me... you could get raped."
The nature and extent of her medical condition following the incident have not been disclosed.
From American Pie Fame to Online Trolling
Tara Reid rose to international fame with her role in the first American Pie film in 1999, becoming a recognised sex symbol. Her career has since included films like Urban Legend.
In a recent podcast interview, the actress opened up about the harsh scrutiny she faces from online trolls. "Everyone says, ‘She got so old looking, she looks bad, she looks like sh*t,’" she revealed, addressing the constant criticism of her appearance on social media.
This concern was echoed recently when fans expressed worry over her health after she posted a photo from the Vegan Fashion Show, with comments noting her "puffy face" and stating, "She looks sick."
